Well-known bearers of the name

Mikkel Thøgersen is the name of the protagonist in Johannes V. Jensen's novel Kongens fald (The Fall of the King) from 1900-01. A well-known Mikkel from modern times is the boxer Mikkel Kessler, who was born in 1979.


In the post-medieval period Mikkel was one of the commonest names among the farming population of Denmark. Townspeople on the other hand preferred the form Michael.
