Josefine is a feminine form of the Hebrew name Josef which means '(may) God increase (the family)'.


The name became popular with a vengeance around 1990 but the two variant forms Josefine and Josephine have had different fates. While Josephine's popularity culminated in 1994 and declined thereafter, Josefine did not culminate until in 2004.
